Scrabble Board
This was my first board game design, and was originally conceived as a wedding gift for a close friend. He and his wife are frequent Scrabble players, and he actually proposed using their board at home.
Every piece of this board was cut or engraved using a laser cutter, including the tiles and tile racks. The board itself is made of Cherry, with additional Maple and Cherry veneer marquetry. The veneer hearts and text panels provide dual purposes - they add appropriate aesthetics for a wedding gift, but also hide the joinery used to keep the outer frame and baseboard aligned.
The playing area is filled with framing segments to keep pieces from sliding around, and the veneer paneling underneath the framing raises up the playing tiles so they are still easy to remove.
The board was finished with linseed oil to emphasis the natural color of the wood, with the exception of the bonus tiles I stained in order to get the trademark red and blue colorings.
